SAFETY — READ BEFORE YOU BOOK

Safety, suitability
and the risks,
in plain English.

Cosmetic lip tattooing is a skin-penetration procedure. It can give natural-looking results, but it isn’t suitable for everyone and it carries real risks. This page sets out what you should know first, so your consultation starts with clear information rather than assumptions.

CHECKLIST — BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT

Five things
to have ready.

01  Any health conditions, skin concerns or medications you’re managing.

02  Details of any previous lip tattoo, including when it was done.

03  Known sensitivities or past reactions to cosmetics or pigments.

04  Questions about discomfort, healing or touch-ups.

05  A realistic picture of the colour you’d like, not a promise of a result.

PROCEDURE — SKIN PENETRATION

What the
treatment
involves.

During cosmetic lip tattooing, pigment is placed into the skin of the lips. Because the skin is penetrated, the procedure must be carried out under strict infection control, and you should be given health and safety information before any treatment begins.

It’s not a painless procedure, and how it feels varies from person to person. We talk you through what to expect at your consultation, and you’re welcome to ask as many questions as you need. If you’d like to see each stage in order, read The Fitting: Our Consultation Process.

SUITABILITY — NOT FOR EVERYONE

We assess you first.

Lip tattooing isn’t right for every client or every situation. We look at your lips, your skin and the health information you share before suggesting any treatment, and sometimes the honest answer is to wait or not proceed.

HEALTH — TELL US EVERYTHING

Your doctor may need a say.

If you have a medical condition, a skin concern on or around the lips, or take regular medication, let us know. We may ask you to speak with your doctor before treatment. We don’t diagnose or treat medical conditions.

PREVIOUS WORK — ASSESSED SEPARATELY

Old pigment changes the plan.

Existing lip tattoos or darker natural tones need their own assessment. See Lip Tattoo Correction, Lip Tattoo Removal and Dark Lip Neutralisation for the specific limits of each.

RISKS — WHAT CAN HAPPEN

Possible risks,
stated clearly.

As with any skin-penetration procedure, there’s a possibility of infection, irritation or a reaction to pigment. Swelling and tenderness can occur while the lips heal. Following your aftercare instructions closely and contacting us if something doesn’t seem right are both part of keeping the risks low.

RESULTS — VARY BETWEEN INDIVIDUALS

Results differ from person to person. Healing and pigment retention can’t be guaranteed, and some treatments may need additional sessions. Fresh pigment often looks brighter or darker than the final result, and the healed colour develops gradually.

STANDARDS — VICTORIA

Infection prevention
and Victorian requirements.

Health information first. Before treatment, you receive the health and safety information you need to make an informed decision.

Infection control. Each treatment follows infection control practices suited to a skin-penetration procedure.

Client records. We keep client records as part of our obligations under Victorian public health regulations.

Premises. Victorian public health regulations also cover premises registration.

SCOPE — COSMETIC TATTOOING ONLY

Looking for fillers
or medical care?

We focus on cosmetic lip tattooing. We don’t offer lip fillers, injectable treatments, surgical lip augmentation or medical treatment for lip conditions. If that’s what you’re looking for, please speak with an appropriately qualified healthcare professional.
