02 — AQUARELLE LIPS
FINISH — SOFT, WATERCOLOUR-STYLE
EDGE — DIFFUSED, NOT OUTLINED
Aquarelle lips is a cosmetic lip tattooing technique that layers sheer, softly blended pigment across the lips for a watercolour-like wash of colour. At our Melbourne studio, every aquarelle treatment begins with a consultation, so colour and depth are chosen around your natural lip tone and features.
THE LOOK — CLOSE VIEW
Where some techniques build a defined border or a fuller lipstick finish, aquarelle is about transparency. Pigment is placed in soft, blended layers with no hard outline, so the effect reads as a gentle tint rather than drawn-on colour. It’s a technique worth considering if you’d like your lips to look a little fresher and more even without appearing made up.
Because the finish is sheer, your natural lip colour still plays a part in how the healed result looks. That’s one reason we take time at the consultation to look at your existing tone, border and symmetry before recommending aquarelle or another approach.
COMPARISON — THREE SOFT TECHNIQUES
All three add colour without a heavy lipstick look, but each places pigment differently. The right one depends on your lips, not on a trend.
01
Personalised pigmentation that enhances natural lip colour and improves definition for a soft, balanced appearance — colour with a gentle sense of shape.
02
A sheer, watercolour-style wash with diffused edges and no defined outline. The focus is soft, even colour rather than border definition.

03
A graduated lip colour technique, where pigment shifts in depth across the lips for a more noticeably shaded effect.

THE FITTING — CHOOSING A TECHNIQUE
01 Observe
We look at your natural colour, lip border, symmetry and any previous tattoo.
02 Discuss
We go through suitability, possible risks and the health information you need before any skin-penetration procedure.
03 Decide
Together we choose a technique and pigment. If aquarelle isn’t the right fit, we’ll explain why and talk through alternatives such as Lip Blush Tattoo or Lip Liner Tattoo.
BEFORE YOU BOOK — WORTH KNOWING
Straight after treatment, pigment often looks brighter or darker than it will once healed. The healed colour develops gradually — something especially worth knowing with a sheer technique like aquarelle. Read Why Fresh Lip Colour Isn’t the Final Result and our Healing & Aftercare guide before your appointment.
Cosmetic lip tattooing is a skin-penetration procedure. Results differ between individuals, healing and pigment retention can’t be guaranteed, and some clients may need an additional session. Our Safety, Suitability & Risks page explains infection prevention, suitability and the information we provide before treatment under Victorian health requirements.
We focus on cosmetic lip tattooing only. For lip fillers or injectable treatments, please speak with a qualified healthcare professional.
