EXPERT INSIGHT — FRESH VS HEALED COLOUR
One of the most common misunderstandings about cosmetic lip tattooing is that the colour you see in the mirror straight after treatment is the colour you’ll keep. Usually, it isn’t. Here, Olha Po explains why fresh pigment often looks brighter or darker, how healed colour develops gradually, and why that matters when you’re thinking about a lip tattoo.

01 — ON THE DAY
Straight after a lip blush tattoo, or any cosmetic lip tattoo, the pigment in your lips is fresh. Fresh pigment often appears brighter or darker than it will once healed. Your lips have also just been through a skin-penetration procedure, so what you see in that moment reflects the treatment itself as much as the colour we chose together.
That’s why we gently ask clients not to judge the result at first glance. It’s a completely understandable reaction. You’ve likely thought about this decision for a while and want to see it. But the colour on the day is a starting point, not the finish.

02 — FRESH VS HEALED
FRESH — ON THE DAY
— Colour often looks brighter or darker than the intended healed tone.
— Your lips are reacting to a just-completed procedure.
— Not a reliable guide to how the result will finally look.
HEALED — DEVELOPS GRADUALLY
— Colour develops gradually as your lips heal.
— How it settles, and how much pigment is retained, varies between individuals.
— This is the result we look at together when reviewing your treatment.

03 — REVIEW & TOUCH-UPS
Because healed colour develops gradually and pigment retention differs from person to person, nobody can tell you exactly how your colour will settle. We don’t promise a particular outcome. What we can do is plan for that uncertainty openly.
At your consultation, we talk through technique and pigment selection for your natural tone, and explain that some treatments may need an additional session. If the healed colour turns out lighter or less even than planned, a review lets us look at it together and discuss whether further work makes sense for you. A touch-up is a conversation, not an automatic step.

04 — BEFORE YOU BOOK
01 — The colour on the day is fresh pigment. Expect it to look different from the healed result.
02 — Healed colour develops gradually and varies between individuals, whether you choose lip blush, a fuller lipstick effect or a correction treatment.
03 — Ask about review and additional sessions at your consultation, so you know what to expect from the start.
