REFERENCE — LIP BORDER, STOCK IMAGE
BORDER — DEFINED, NOT DRAWN
When your lip border is soft, uneven or fades into the surrounding skin, lip liner and contour tattooing can bring back a sense of shape. We place pigment along your own natural line, so the definition looks like it belongs to your face, not like a pencil you forgot to blend.

SCOPE — WHAT CONTOUR WORK DOES
Clients often describe the same thing in different words: undefined lip borders, a cupid’s bow that has softened, one side that looks fuller than the other. Contour tattooing works on that outer edge. It is cosmetic lip tattooing focused on definition and balance, rather than on filling the whole lip with colour.
It can stand on its own, or sit underneath a softer wash of colour such as a Lip Blush Tattoo. For a closer look at the liner technique on its own, see our Lip Liner Tattoo page. It does not change the volume of your lips. If you want more volume, that’s lip fillers, which we don’t offer; a qualified healthcare professional is the right person to ask.
OPTIONS — HOW FAR THE LINE GOES
A — LINE ONLY
A soft contour along the border, with your own lip colour left untouched inside. Suits clients who like their natural tone but want a clearer outline.
B — LINE + SOFT COLOUR
The edge is softened inward into a gentle tint, so there’s no visible line. Often paired with Lip Blush Tattoo or Aquarelle Lips.
C — LINE + FULL COLOUR
A more deliberate finish for clients who want to rely less on daily lipstick. See Lipstick Effect Tattoo and Ombre Lip Tattoo.

FITTING — WHAT WE DECIDE TOGETHER
PLACEMENT — ON YOUR NATURAL BORDER
We look closely at where your border actually sits and how symmetrical it is. Small refinements are discussed openly; dramatic over-lining is not the aim.
WEIGHT — SOFT OR CRISP
A hairline contour reads very differently from a defined edge. We choose the weight to suit your features and how you usually wear makeup.
COLOUR — CHOSEN FOR YOUR TONE
Pigment is selected against your natural lip colour and skin tone, keeping in mind that fresh colour often looks brighter or darker than the healed result.
HISTORY — ANY PREVIOUS TATTOO
If an older liner has shifted or changed colour, contour work may not be the first step. We may suggest Lip Tattoo Correction first. The full sequence is set out in The Fitting: Our Consultation Process.

LIMITS — SAID PLAINLY
Lip liner and contour tattooing is a skin-penetration procedure. Before treatment we go through suitability, possible risks and the health information required in Victoria, and we work under infection control practices throughout.
Results vary between individuals. Healing and pigment retention can’t be guaranteed, the line may soften as it settles, and another session may be needed to refine it. We won’t promise a specific outcome, only a considered plan for your lips.
QUESTIONS — ABOUT CONTOUR WORK
More answers on cost, comfort and touch-ups are in our Lip Tattoo FAQs.
It shouldn’t. Most clients choose a soft contour that follows their natural border. Straight after treatment the line can look stronger than it will once healed colour develops.
It can help a border look more balanced. How much depends on your natural lip shape, and we’ll talk about what’s realistic at your consultation.
That depends on the approach you choose and your lip history. We offer a free quote, worked out after we’ve looked at your lips together.
Not sure whether you need a contour, a soft colour or both? Bring your questions, photos of lips you like, or details of a previous tattoo.
